Restoring Water Damaged Homes In Indian Shores

Even with their location on the Florida west coast, Indian Shores homeowners deal more with the effects of failed appliances. The water released by a broken dishwasher or a water heater with a faulty cut-off switch can flood an entire home overnight.

This type of water damage to Indian Shores homes can include personal and structural property loss. SERVPRO restoration teams use specialized equipment and training in every home to prevent that and restore everything possible.

Since every minute underwater can cause the property to split and crumble, technicians bring in commercial pumps for ankle deep and higher standing water, then switch to extraction wands for lower levels. The wands are also excellent for drawing water out of carpets, and wood flooring and our personnel can adjust both the speed and heat used to begin the drying process as well carefully.

At the same time, other SERVPRO team members remove furniture to a dry part of the house or outside and place it on pallets or blocks to help water drain and avoid wood cracking or splitting. If needed, technicians set up fans to carefully force air across surfaces, reducing the time needed for drying. For cushions and pillows that absorbed a large amount of water, they stack them like a tent, keeping the zippers on top, so water drains away from them, avoiding rust.

After removing the water, specialists examine the drywall panels and floor trim for damage. Drywall quickly absorbs moisture, even through latex paint. Floor trim is more resistant than drywall, but if either absorbs enough water, they are cheaper to replace than restore.

If they are restorable, our technicians remove the floor trim and stand the pieces upright in a corner or outside. As long as the drywall has not started crumbling, technicians drill small holes into each panel behind where the floor trim was attached and use air movers to force warm air across the exposed surfaces and into the wall spaces behind the panels to dry them.

These are the first steps that SERVPRO of Seminole & Central Gulf Beaches takes to dry and restore water damaged homes to their original condition. If you need us, call (727) 391-6212 today to get started. We are here for you.
